    Not all the birds flew south for the winter. Cleveland Metroparks invites everyone to come enjoy the birds this January through the following free programs:


    Bird Banding


    Saturday, January 5 � 9:30 a.m. - noon


    Garfield Park Nature Center � Garfield Park Reservation


    Drop in and see birds so close their feathers can be counted. Come in to capture, band and release birds. Kids can make a bird craft while there, too. Garfield Park Nature Center is located off Mill Creek Lane, off the Broadway Avenue entrance of Garfield Park Reservation in Garfield Heights. For more information, call 216-341-3152.


     


    Feeder Frenzy


    Saturday, January 5 � 2 - 3 p.m.


    Garfield Park Nature Center � Garfield Park Reservation


    Winter provides a wonderful opportunity to see birds up close and personal at the bird feeders. Take a seat, engage in discussions about these flying friends and soak up the views from inside Garfield Park Nature Center, located off Mill Creek Lane, off the Broadway Avenue entrance of Garfield Park Reservation in Garfield Heights.     Monthly Morning with the Birds


    Saturday, January 12 � 9 a.m. - noon


    Rocky River Nature Center � Rocky River Reservation


    Meet Naturalist Ken Gober for the monthly hike to survey bird activity near Rocky River Nature Center, then warm up with a cup of hot cocoa. Bring binoculars and a bird guide. Dress for the weather. Rocky River Nature Center is located at 24000 Valley Parkway, between Cedar Point Road and Shepard Lane in Rocky River Reservation in North Olmsted.     Happy Birthday Birds


    Sunday, January 13 � 9 a.m. - noon


    Rocky River Nature Center � Rocky River Reservation


    In bird banding terms, every bird becomes another year older on January 1. Celebrate their birthday and get an up close look at the guests of honor. Cake cutting at 10 a.m. Cancelled if raining. Rocky River Nature Center is located at 24000 Valley Parkway, between Cedar Point Road and Shepard Lane in Rocky River Reservation in North Olmsted. For more information, call 440-734-6660.



    Bird Banding

    CanalWay Center � Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation


    Learn about bird banding, an essential tool for learning about our feathered friends. See the intricate details of the birds that are captured, banded and released at the feeders. Drop in anytime; however the program will be cancelled if raining. CanalWay Center is located on Whittlesey Way, off the East 49th Street entrance of Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation, between Grant Avenue and Canal Road in Cuyahoga Heights.     Coffee with the Birds


    Sunday, January 20 � 9 - 10 a.m.


    Rocky River Nature Center � Rocky River Reservation


    What birds are visiting the nature center feeders this month? Sip some warm coffee and observe which kinds of seed attract the most birds. Binoculars and coffee will be provided. Registration, beginning January 7, is required. Rocky River Nature Center is located at 24000 Valley Parkway, between Cedar Point Road and Shepard Lane in Rocky River Reservation in North Olmsted.     Sunday Bird Walk


    Sunday, January 20 � 9 - 11 a.m.


    North Chagrin Nature Center � North Chagrin Reservation


    Come search for species from farther north, as well as the more common winter birds. Some binoculars will be available to borrow. North Chagrin Nature Center is located off Buttermilk Falls Parkway, off the Sunset Lane entrance of North Chagrin Reservation, off SOM Center Road/Route 91 in Mayfield Village.     Birds and Coffee


    Sunday, January 27 � 9 - 10 a.m.


    North Chagrin Nature Center's Nature Education Building � North Chagrin Reservation


    Enjoy the birds visiting the feeders while sipping hot coffee. Observe and discuss which birds come to the feeders. North Chagrin Nature Center's Nature Education Building is located behind the nature center, off Buttermilk Falls Parkway, off the Sunset Lane entrance of North Chagrin Reservation, off SOM Center Road/Route 91 in Mayfield Village.
