Start your engines�it's less than two weeks away!
Cleveland Metroparks invites everyone to come see some of the
equipment used to keep the Park District operating at the free
�Touch-A-Truck� event on Sunday, August 19 from noon to 4 p.m. at
Strongsville Park Operations in Mill Stream Run Reservation in
Strongsville.
Featuring over 60 pieces of heavy equipment, kid���s can climb
on and in, and learn why each piece of equipment is used. Some of
the departments displaying equipment include: park operations,
specialty crews, golf, natural resources, park rangers, and outdoor
education.
Equipment on display includes:
Park Operations Department - Backhoe - used for various
tasks, including loading salt in the winter, making underground
repairs and landscaping in the summer. This unit can access
worksites without causing damage in developed areas.
Backhoes, like these, are �out-in-force� whenever storm damage
occurs.
Golf Construction Division - Caterpillar - rubber tracks
minimize turf damage when repairing or installing irrigation and/or
drainage or when reshaping sand traps, this machine expedites
capital projects.
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo - Mini Excavator - allows for
greater access to tight spaces with minimal impact when digging
trenches for repairs or creating foundation footers.
Kids can also enjoy playing in a huge sandbox with over two tons
of sand brought in from the golf division.
And, all ages can bring empty aluminium cans for a Steam Roller
Demonstration! The cans will be rolled �flat as a pancake� at 1, 2
and 3 p.m. and donated to Cleveland Metroparks recycling
program.
EarthWords Nature Shop will also be selling merchandise, and
�fuel up� with refreshments available for sale.
Strongsville Park Operations facility is located at 9485
Eastland Road in Mill Stream Run Reservation, off Valley Parkway,
west of Pearl Road/Rte. 42 in Strongsville.
Haywagons and shuttle buses will be available to and from the
additional parking areas.
