Cast away the Playstations, iPhones and laptops, leave the
Facebook statuses and text messages unanswered, and step outside to
hear the call of the wild.

Kids and their families can enjoy the free, annual Cleveland
    Metroparks Outdoor Odyssey
event on Saturday, October 13 from
noon to 4 p.m. along the Ohio & Erie Canal in Ohio & Erie
    Canal Reservation in Cuyahoga Heights.

When kids arrive, they can pick up a passport to begin their
odyssey and discoveries.  As children complete a station, they
receive a stamp on their passport.  When they complete at
least five of the stations, they can redeem their passport for a
    prize!

Young visitors can experience outdoor recreation with a variety
of fun activities, including fishing, golf and hiking. They can
also learn how to fix a flat bicycle tire, identify constellations
    and more!

A variety of nature and environmental organizations will also be
on hand with activities and displays.  Kids can meet live
animals from Lake Erie Nature & Science Center, too!

Youth Outdoors, a division of Cleveland Metroparks, hosts the
Outdoor Odyssey event annually.  Youth Outdoors is a
partnership between Cleveland Metroparks, 4-H, the City of
Cleveland, and The Ohio State University Extension.  It makes
a difference in the lives of urban youth, ages 8 to 18, in outdoor
recreation and environmental education programs - by experiencing
nature, developing outdoor recreation skills, gaining a life-long
appreciation and understanding of natural resources, and learning
valuable life skills in achieving goals.

The entrance to Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation is located on
Whittlesey Way, off E. 49Street, between Grant Avenue and Canal
Road in Cuyahoga Heights - just off the I-77/Grant Avenue
exit.  Follow the signs behind CanalWay Center to get to the
event site along the Ohio & Erie Canal.

For more information, call 216-206-1000 or visit

Embrace the outdoors at the Outdoor Odyssey event in
Cleveland Metroparks - part of your life,
    naturally!
