The best amateur golfers in Greater Cleveland were crowned at
the 2012 �Greater Cleveland Amateur Golf Championship,� on August
10 through 12 at Manakiki Golf Course in Willoughby Hills.
Although the tournament was to be held as a 54-hole, three-day
tournament, Mother Nature had her mind made up that it"_GoBack"> was not to be, and Friday's 18-hole play was
cancelled due to wet weather and course conditions. But,
despite the event being shortened to a two-day, 36-hole event, the
competition was intense on Saturday and Sunday.
Nick Palladino won the 2012 Greater Cleveland Amateur
Championship event by one stroke over Matt
Heestand. Palladino and Heestand were the only two
players to break par over the two-round tournament play.
Palladino was this year's Course Champion at Manakiki, as well.
The participants in the annual Championship were selected from
Cleveland Metroparks Course Championship tournaments at four of the
Park District's 18-hole courses (Manakiki, Sleepy Hollow, Shawnee
Hills, and Big Met), held as 36-hole, two-day tournaments in
July. Additional competitors were included through exemption
status and various regional association tournaments and
