    �Fly� over to Cleveland Metroparks and enjoy more than a dozen
    different free bird programs lead by Cleveland Metroparks staff.
    See and hear migratory birds returning to Cleveland and those
    passing through to their final breeding grounds.



    The bird programs in May include:



    Spring Bird Hike



    Thursdays, May 3, May 10, May 17, and May 24 ∙
    8:30 - 10:30 a.m.



    Jackson Field parking lot ∙ South Chagrin
    Reservation



    Take a 1.5-mile hike and discover winged migrants during this
    series of bird hikes. Binoculars recommended. Some binoculars
    available for loan. Jackson Field parking lot is located off
    Jackson Road in South Chagrin Reservation, north of Miles Road in
    Moreland Hills. For more information, call 440-247-7075.



    Birding From The All Purpose Trail



    Saturday, May 5 ∙ 8:30 - 10 a.m.



    The Shelterhouse Picnic  Area ∙ South Chagrin
    Reservation



    This 1.25-mile bird hike starts at the shelterhouse and
    continues on the all purpose trail to the arboretum and back. 
    Binoculars recommended. Some binoculars available for loan. The
    Shelterhouse Picnic  Area is located "OLE_LINK1">off Hawthorn Parkway in South Chagrin Reservation,
    east of SOM Center Road/Route 91 in Bentleyville. For more

    Bird Photography Opportunity



    Saturday and Sunday, May 5 and 6 ∙ 9:30 a.m. -
    3:30 p.m.



    North Chagrin Nature Center ∙ North Chagrin
    Reservation



    This is a picture-perfect opportunity to photograph returning
    migrant birds. A photo blind will be placed near a bird feeding
    station allowing photographers to get up close. Natural perches
    will be placed in strategic areas to help photographers capture
    some perfect photographs. Photographers can reserve one-hour time
    slots. Registration is required. North Chagrin Nature Center is
    located off Buttermilk Falls Parkway, off the Sunset Lane entrance
    of North Chagrin Reservation, off SOM Center Road/Route 91 in

    Nuthatch Avoiders



    Sunday May 6 ∙ 1 - 3 p.m.



    Jackson Field � South Chagrin Reservation



    This program is a perfect start for bird watcher beginners. Take
    a leisurely, 1-mile bird hike searching for resident and migratory
    birds, and try to identify different bird songs. Some binoculars
    available for loan. Jackson Field is located  off Jackson Road
    in South Chagrin Reservation, north of Miles Road in Moreland

    Mid-Week After Work Hike



    Wednesday, May 9 ∙ 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

    Reservation



    Unwind after a hard day of work with a guided, 2.5- to 3-mile
    bird hike. Be ready for an invigorating, yet enjoyable trek on
    hilly bridle trails. While hiking, look and listen for birds
    returning back to Ohio from their wintering grounds. North Chagrin
    Nature Center is located off Buttermilk Falls Parkway, off the
    Sunset Lane entrance of North Chagrin Reservation, off SOM Center
    Road/Route 91 in Mayfield Village. For more information, call

    Monthly Morning With The Birds

    Bird migration is at its peak. Bring binoculars and a curious
    spirit to witness some of these winged wonders. Rocky River Nature

    Bird Banding At Rocky River Nature Center

    Learn about bird banding, an essential tool for studying
    nature's feathered friends. See intricate details of the birds as
    they are captured, banded and released near the feeders. Program
    will be cancelled during rain. Drop in anytime between the hours

    School Of The Wilds: Swallows

    Hundreds of swallows (cliff, northern rough winged, tree and
    barn) gather near the Rocky River in one special spot. Join
    Naturalist Min Keung to review the fascinating life history of
    swallows, then venture on a 1-mile hike to view this magical place
    of swallow convergence. Rocky RiverNatureCenter is located at 24000
    Valley Parkway in Rocky River Reservation, north of Cedar Point

    The natural area on Lake Erie, formerly known as Dike 14, is
    officially open all the time. Come see this Cleveland gem anytime
    between the hours listed.  Cleveland Lakefront Nature Preserve
    is located at the northern most end of  Martin Luther King,
    Jr. Drive, north of the Shoreway in Cleveland. Park at the
    Cleveland Lakefront State Park Offices. For more information, call

    Birding On The Lake To Lake
    Trail

    Eastland Road Trailhead ∙ Big Creek
    Reservation



    Join Naturalist Sharon Hosko on a 1.5-mile hike and
    discover  which birds can be seen or heard on the LakeAbram
    section of the Lake to Lake Trail. Binoculars are recommended.
    Eastland Road Trailhead is located off Eastland Road in Big Creek
    Reservation, north of Bagley Road in Berea. For more information,

    Bird Banding

    Reservation



    Learn about bird banding, an essential tool for learning about
    nature's  feathered friends. See intricate details of the
    birds when they are captured, banded and released at the feeders.

    Whittlesey Way, off the East 49th Street entrance of
    Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation, between Grant Avenue and Canal

    Join Naturalist Jen Brumfield on a "round-up" of
    migrant and breeding songbirds of North Chagrin Reservation. Take
    an easy, 2-mile hike and scour the wetlands and beech and hemlock
    ravines for woodpeckers, creepers, kinglets, flycatchers and
    others. North Chagrin Nature Center is located off Buttermilk Falls
    Parkway, off the Sunset Lane entrance of North Chagrin Reservation,
    off SOM Center Road/Route 91 in Mayfield Village. For more

    Birding in a Big Canoe



    Wednesday, May 30 ∙ 6 - 8 p.m.



    Eldon Russell Park ∙ Geauga Park District



    Join Historical Interpreter/Naturalist Foster Brown and Ben
    DeRubertis on a trip down the scenic Upper Cuyahoga River in a
    34-foot canoe. Enjoy birding, historical facts, wildflowers, trees,
    insects and, perhaps, even a glimpse of a few mammals.
    Registration, beginning May 1, and a $5 fee per person is required.
    Space is limited. Additional details including starting location
    given upon registration. For registration and more information,
