Spring has sprung and the wonders of Mother Nature
are calling! Explore Cleveland Metroparks reservations and other
Northeast Ohio trails on your bike.
Cleveland Metroparks is offering a variety of free, group bike
rides to picturesque destinations led by Cleveland Metroparks
staff.
Bike rides in May include:
Bike The Canal
Thursday, May 10 � 5:30 - 8 p.m.
CanalWay Center � Ohio & Erie Canal
Reservation
Enjoy an 8-mile ride from CanalWay Center to Rockside Road and
back. Observe and discuss history and nature along the way.
Registration, beginning May 1, is required. CanalWay Center is
located on Whittlesey Way, off the East 49th Street
entrance of Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation, between Grant Avenue
and Canal Road in Cuyahoga Heights. For registration and more

Tour de Necklace: BacciPark to Brecksville
and Back
Sunday, May 13 � 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Bacci Park parking lot � Ohio & Erie Canal
Reservation
Ride along Ohio's National Heritage Corridor. The Ohio &
Erie Canal Towpath Trail always proves to be beautiful and
historically appealing. Meet at Bacci Park and bike 19 miles on the
Towpath Trail to Brecksville Reservation and catch a glimpse of
nesting herons and maybe a bald eagle! Registration,
beginning May 1, is required. Bacci Park is located off Canal Road,
adjacent to Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation, between E.
71st Street and Warner Road in Cuyahoga Heights.

Spring Bicycle Ride
Saturday, May 26 � 9:30 - 11 a.m.
Bonnie Park Picnic Area � Mill Stream Run Reservation
Join Naturalist Gretchen Motts and explore Mill Stream Run
Reservation on a 9-mile bike ride. The ride heads south from Bonnie
Park, stops at Strongsville Wildlife area, and other places of
interest. Registration, beginning May 15, is required for this
adult and teen ride.Bonnie Park Picnic Area is located off Valley
Parkway in Mill Stream Run Reservation, off Pearl Road/Route 42 in

And don't miss Cleveland Metroparks Biking the Back
Roads 2012 series. These tours are designed specifically
for the casual rider who takes cycling seriously, but not at a race
pace. Each ride includes short, historical and nature lessons while
passing through gorgeous landscapes, parks, farmland and Ohio
historic sites. Each ride is planned to circle back to the starting
point. Participants ride as a group to ensure safety.
The Biking the Back Roads 2012 series includes the

Saturday, May 26
Kokosing Gap Trail � Danville to Mount
Vernon (30 miles)
The ride starts on the 13.5-mile rails to trails path and then
circles around on back roads through Gambier, home of Kenyon
College, and along the Kokosing River.
Saturday, June 16
Headwaters Trail � PortageCounty (35
miles)
The ride starts at Portage County Headwaters Trail
(Garrettsville), a rails to trails path, and then pedal in and
around Manuta before heading north toward the historic village of
Hiram Rapids.
Saturday, July 14
Mill Creek MetroParks Bikeway � Mahoning County
(30 miles)
This picturesque bikeway takes riders through the center of
beautiful Mahoning County. Ride past nature preserves, a MetroParks
farm, and many historic remnants of the old Erie Railroad.
Saturday, August 11
Hinckley Hills and Hollers � Medina County (30
miles)
Starting at Hinckley Lake Swimming Area parking lot, bike ride
through the countryside learning fascinating stories of those who
came before us. A hike to Worden's Ledges is also included.
Hinckley Lake Swimming Area parking lot is located off Bellus Road
in Hinckley Reservation, between West and East Drives in Hinckley
Township.
Saturday, September 8
CanalWay Ride � Boston Store to Mustill Store
(30 miles)
This true historic ride travels along the Ohio & Erie Canal,
an official National Heritage Corridor. Start with a quick tour of
Boston Store, then head towards Mustill Store in Akron, eat lunch,
then return back.
Saturday, October 13
Amish Country � GeaugaCounty (35 miles)
This ride treks through Amish country and passes by farms,
fields and homes of these humble folk. Eat lunch in an Amish home
($15 fee).
All Biking the Back Roads 2012 tours begin at 9:30
a.m. and end around 3 p.m. Bring a packed lunch and helmets are
required.
