Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo set for June 11

Each year, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo teams up with more than 20 area humane organizations to host a pet adoption event like none other -- Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo!

This year, more than 100 dogs, cats, kittens and puppies, many of which will be available for immediate adoption, will be on the Zoo's Ticket Plaza with their humane organizations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 11. More than 750 pets have been adopted through the event since it started in 2001.

"This event is designed to give people looking for an animal companion an overview of the organizations out there that might be able to help them," said Sue Allen, the Zoo's Director of Marketing & Public Relations. "We're proud to provide the venue to help these adoptable dogs and cats find permanent, loving homes."

Participating rescue groups and shelters will offer advice on choosing the right pet and how best to care for it. All dogs and cats will have received a health check-up and age-appropriate vaccinations. Each organization sets its own adoption fees and policies, and some require a waiting period.

The event is FREE and takes place outside the Zoo under tents on the Ticket Plaza. For health and safety reasons, visitors should leave their current pets at home.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily with hours extended to 7 p.m. on weekends and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Admission is $11 per person, $8 for kids ages 2 to 11 and free for children younger than 2 and Zoo members. Parking is free. Located at 3900 Wildlife Way, the Zoo is easily accessible from Interstates 71, 90 and 480.
