Cleveland Metroparks �North Coast Nature Festival� event is
sprouting a little earlier this year.
Get a jump on spring gardening tips with the �North Coast Nature
Festival� on Friday evening, April 15 and Saturday, April 16 at
Rocky River Nature Center in Rocky River Reservation in North
Olmsted. The free event features a variety of programs and
activities for nature enthusiasts, and includes �The Nature &
Art Show� on Saturday.
In addition to �The Nature & Art Show� activities, visitors
can enjoy a Special Evening Presentation on Friday night, April 15
at 7:30 p.m. with nationally-known author, birder and nature
photographer Laura Erickson speaking on �Close Encounters of the
Bird Kind.�
The Friday evening presentation is free. Doors open at 7
p.m. and seating is limited.
And, the weekend features special activities on Saturday, April
16, including a Cleveland Metroparks Rangers Bike Tour to
BereaFalls at 11 a.m., a Wetlands and Amphibians Hike at 7 p.m.,
and a Star Party
at 8:30 p.m. All the special programs require
pre-registration and space is limited.
�The Nature & Art Show,� on Saturday, April 16 is from 10 a.m.
to 5 p.m. and features a great variety of presentations by guest
speakers, along with nature art/photography exhibits and sales,
exhibits of green-related organizations and other nature-minded
vendors, a digital scavenger hunt (bring digital cameras or camera
phones), hikes for all ages, live animals, musical entertainment,
children's activities, and more.
Saturday's guest speakers include: �Chickadees!� with Laura
Erickson at 11 a.m., �Composting at Home� with Nancy Hughes
at 12:30 p.m., �Green Gardening� with Greg Cada at 2 p.m.,
�Amphibian Talk� with Bethany Majewski at 3 p.m., and
�Going Green in Your Backyard� with Jared Bartley at 4
p.m.
Additional programs and activities taking place at the �North Coast
Nature Festival� are live music and live animal programs, hikes
every hour, children's crafts and activities, kids can build toad
abodes for $1 with NOAH, and more.
And, from sunrise to noon on Sunday, there will be bird banding
demonstrations.
Rocky River Nature Center is located at 24000 Valley Parkway,
between Cedar Point Road and Shepard Lane in North Olmsted - just
off the I-480/Clague Road exit (westbound) and I-480/Columbia Road
exit (eastbound).
