Dust off the clubs and get the golf shoes out from the back of
the closet, and get a jump on those golf lessons you promised you
would take.
Get a jump on the 2011 season by checking out these golf
learning opportunities available from Cleveland Metroparks �Academy
of Golf.�
The mission of the Academy is to provide a variety of
high-quality learning opportunities for golfers of all skill
levels, age and gender, and to improve their golf skills, knowledge
and enjoyment of the game. Ultimately the goal of the Academy is to
meet personal golf goals. The Academy provides unique learning
opportunities for each participant to enhance their personal golf
skills, personal fitness and outdoor recreational
opportunities.
Interested beginners can get an introduction to the sport on four
Saturdays in February (5, 12, 19 & 26) at 10 a.m. at Manakiki
Golf Course with �Beginners - An Introduction to Golf.� Geared
towards beginners and players with a 25 handicap or above, this
indoor, four-week series is a one-hour, hands-on class that covers
the basics of the full swing, chipping and putting. Basic golf
terms, rules and etiquette also are covered. Loaner equipment will
be available. Cost is $100. All participants completing the course
will be given a pass to a Cleveland Metroparks short course.
Experienced golfers who want to get an early jump on the season
might want to take advantage of �Indoor Spring Training� offered at
two locations in March. These two-hour sessions are designed to
help golfers take advantage of practice time before the weather
breaks in the spring. Participants will have a game plan in place
covering areas of the swing that need work for a better golf
experience. Each class is limited to a maximum of 10 participants.
Cost is $20 per person. The scheduled sessions are:
