Beginning September 6, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The new schedule may mean the seasons are changing, but fall is a great time to visit the Zoo. The leaves across the Zoo's 183 wooded acres begin to change color, and many of the animals become more active during the day as summer's heat begins to dissipate.
Other seasonal changes involve the camel rides in Australian Adventure, which end Labor Day, September 5, and Professor Wylde's Live Animal Show which moves to weekends only after the holiday.
Due to the Monday Labor Day holiday, free Zoo admission for residents of Cuyahoga County and Hinckley Township will be offered on Tuesday, September 6.
Tuesday, September 6 also marks the last day of the Zoo's seasonal butterfly exhibit, FLUTTER! Until then, hundreds of butterflies from South America, Africa and Asia will continue to flutter freely through the Public Greenhouse, which is filled with beautiful tropical plants as well.
The change in season also means it's time to start planning your costume for Boo at the Zoo! Tickets are on sale now for the annual sell-out event, scheduled this year for Oct. 20-23 and 27-30. Tickets are available at the Zoo box office or online at clemetzoo.com. Boo admission is $8 and Zoo members receive a $1 discount. Children younger than 2 are free.
The Zoo had one of its greatest summers ever attendance-wise thanks to its newest exhibit, African Elephant Crossing. The Zoo broke its single-day attendance record on June 13 with a crowd of 24,976 and by the end of June, had posted one of its best months ever with 252,611 visitors. The Zoo is now well on its way to extending its million-plus visitor streak to 19 years straight.
