Ever wonder about the history of Cleveland Metroparks or other
near-by lands? The fall season is an excellent time to learn and
explore some unique history!
During the month of October, everyone is invited to enjoy

History and a Brown Bag Lunch

Pack a lunch and join our new Cultural History Interpreter Karen
Lukas for a mid-day program. In celebration of Ohio Archeology
Month, find out about the Whittlesey, the last prehistoric Native
Americans to occupy Northeastern Ohio. Also take a peek into the
life of Charles Whittlesey, the
19th-century antiquarian for who they are named.

a 5-mile autumnal history/nature bicycle adventure along the Canal.
Start at CanalWayCenter and head north to Harvard Road.

Little Cabins in the Woods

Ever been curious about the old cabins in the woods near
Squire's Castle? Then, this is the program for you. Bring a
pedometer, wear sturdy walking shoes, and don't forget a bottle of
water, and take a 4.5 mile walk on the Castle Valley Trail leading
to the cabins. NorthChagrinNatureCenter is located off Buttermilk
Falls Parkway, off the Sunset Lane entrance of North Chagrin
Reservation, off SOM Center Road/Route 91 in MayfieldVillage. For

ScenicPark Hike

The Scenic Park Marina area has an interesting history, both
geological and human. Join a naturalist for a 1-mile hike in this
interesting area. Meet at the shelterhouse. This fulfills a Walking
Works hike requirement, too. ScenicPark Picnic Area is located off
Valley Parkway, off the Detroit Road entrance of Rocky River

Walking Works Iron Springs

Take a quick jaunt around the Iron Springs Loop Trail. Get your
daily exercise, learn about some of GarfieldPark's history, and get
one step closer to a Walking Works hiking shield.
GarfieldParkNatureCenter is located off Mill Creek Lane, off the
Broadway Avenue entrance of Garfield Park Reservation in Garfield

Cleveland Metroparks Walking Works Program runs now through
October 31. Walkers get a Walking Works form, available in the
Walking Works 2010 brochure or at clevelandmetroparks.com, that
they sign and date each time they complete a designated trail.
After completing at least eight walks, participants may return
their form to Cleveland Metroparks to receive a Walking Works
walking stick shield.
