Each year, beaches along the Great Lakes are
used for a variety of recreational purposes. But much research and
volunteer help is required to keep beaches clean and safe for
In partnership with Alliance for the Great
Lakes, Cleveland Metroparks is participating in the
"Adopt-a-Beach" program. The purpose is to conduct litter
removal and test and monitor the water quality of Lake Erie from
specific locations, including Huntington Beach of Cleveland
Metroparks Huntington Reservation.
The Adopt-a-Beach program is open to schools,
families, businesses and community groups to adopt Huntington Beach
in Huntington Reservation.
Volunteers work with Alliance for the Great
Lakes to adopt Huntington Beach, log the information gathered into
an online database, and use data for pollution prevention and

program on Sunday, October 3 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Huntington
Beach in Bay Village. Adults and families can see how data is
gathered for water quality and help with a beach survey for
Alliance of the Great Lakes.
Registration by October 2, is required. Space is limited.

Alliance for the Great Lakes notes that the
Adopt-a-Beach� has a track record of improving beaches and
shorelines. In 2008, volunteers removed more than 30,000 pounds of
trash from Great Lakes shorelines, and cleaning more than 200 beach
sites in other Great Lakes states. Expansion of the program to Ohio
