The kids are back in school, the temperatures are cooler, and
the fall colors are approaching their peak. There's no better time
to learn a new outdoor skill through courses and trips offered by
Cleveland Metroparks Institute of the Great Outdoors (IGO).
The following are some of the IGO offerings this fall:
Backpacking Basics

Learn the basics to having a safe and enjoyable backcountry
experience. IGO knowledgeable staff will cover topics such as
tents, backpacks, water filters, sleeping bags, and more.
Registration is required. Fee: $15.
Camp & Kayak Getaway

Friday, October 15 - Sunday, October 17
Enjoy a camping and kayaking getaway to
SaltForkStatePark. Located a few hours south of Cleveland, Salt
Fork offers calm waters for kayaking and peaceful campsites.
Participants are required to have taken an IGO kayaking class
within the last two years. Registration is required. This program
is for adults. Fee: $85 (includes camping permit, boats, camping
gear).
Backpacking in Pennsylvania

Explore the fall beauty of the Allegheny
Mountains via the Hickory Creek Wilderness and a section of the
Tanbark Trail. This intermediate level trip hosts a variety of
unique features ranging from historical sites to sheer natural
wonders. Registration is required. This program is for adults.
Fee: $85 (includes equipment).
Participants can enjoy the knowledge and expertise of seasoned
instructors with all IGO programs.
IGO also offers equipment adaptation and assessment to make
outdoor recreation opportunities available to all individuals,
regardless of ability.
Some classes have prerequisites, including a level of
proficiency and knowledge.
