Cleveland Metroparks celebrates Ohio's pioneer days at the
annual, free fall event - "Cedar Valley Settlers Celebration
& Music Festival" on Sunday, September 19 from 11 a.m. to
5 p.m. at FrostvilleMuseum and Rocky RiverNatureCenter in Rocky
River Reservation in North Olmsted.
Visitors can take a walk back through time to experience what
life was like for the early settlers of Northeast Ohio. The
nearly one-mile long Pioneer Trail connecting Frostville Museum and
Rocky River Nature Center features pioneer crafts and skills,
activities, food sampling, live music, and more! The pioneer
skills and activities include: candlestick dipping, basket weaving,
playing with pioneer toys, rug weaving, Dutch oven cooking, butter
churning, working the two-man saw, and more! A potpourri of
traditional foods can be sampled, such as fire-roasted turkey,
biscuits with freshly-churned butter, apple cider, apple butter,
and more.
Visitors can also talk to pioneer-costumed folks and visit a
mini-encampment of a pioneer excursion camp.
Also, browse the great merchandise selections of EarthWords
Nature Shop. Additional refreshments will be available for
purchase, too.
The FrostvilleMuseum grounds feature live music on the Main
Stage, an area for square and contra dancing, storytelling, food
sampling, and pioneer skills areas. Visitors can tour six of
the FrostvilleMuseum historic buildings, too.
This year, the Festival once again features two nationally-known
acts. Taking the Main Stage at
2 p.m., hear Missy Raines & the New Hip, featuring 7-time
winner of the IBMA Bass Player of the Year Missy Raines. And
closing the day at 4 p.m., the purveyors of nu-folk and bluegrass
Crooked Still performs, coming off their newest release Some
Strange Country.
Be sure to bring blankets/lawn chairs to enjoy the Main Stage
performances.
The "Cedar Valley Settlers Celebration & Music
Festival" is free and held rain or shine.
