You can make a difference! Support Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and its mission of environmental stewardship by bringing your recyclables to the Zoo on Sunday, November 14, America Recycles Day.
America Recycles Day is all about "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle," something the Zoo stands behind in many of its everyday decisions and practices.
Everyone is invited to get in the conservation spirit and drop off select recyclables at the Zoo in exchange for one free admission with the purchase of a regular admission.
Eligible recyclables include aluminum cans, newspapers, catalogs, junk mail, books, electronic media, inkjet and toner cartridges and cell phones and accessories. Free document shredding also will be available until 2 p.m. with a limit of five bags/boxes.
Visitors can also bring used athletic shoes, running shoes and sneakers of any brand for the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program. LIVESTRONG wristbands will be accepted as well. No shoes containing metal, cleats, dress shoes or sandals will be accepted.
Proceeds from aluminum cans collected will benefit the Kinabatangan Orangutan Conservation Project in Sabah, Malaysia, a Zoo supported initiative that addresses deforestation for palm oil harvesting and its effects on local wildlife and habitats.
America Recycles Day also will feature activities for kids including the Trash Toss game and a recycled craft making project, and exhibitors who promote other aspects of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle." Backyard compost bins will be available for sale through the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District as well.
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for kids ages 2-11 and free for Zoo members and children younger than 2. Located at 3900 Wildlife Way, the Zoo is easily accessible from Interstates 71, 77, 90 and 480. Parking is free.
