Many people may not be aware that Cleveland Metroparks has
specialists monitoring and managing the land and wildlife. Through
research and management, Cleveland Metroparks watches and cares for
the ever-changing landscape and biology of the parks'

monitoring projects overseen by the Natural Resources Division at
free special presentations, "Evening with the
Researchers," at CanalWayCenter in Ohio & Erie Canal
The "Evenings," presented every other month, are hosted
by experts who know first-hand the challenges, concerns and
victories faced within the reservations of Cleveland

Earthworms in the Park: I Thought Earthworms were Good?
After the glacier retreat, no native earthworms were left in
the region. Since then, European and Asian earthworms have been
reintroduced accidentally and purposefully, and with variable
results. Are there really earthworm species found in Cleveland
Metroparks that are bad for our soil?

Habitat for Wood Ducks
Artificial nest boxes are often used to supplement habitat for
various migrant bird species. Wood ducks are cavity nesters that
have benefited greatly from the nest box program across the
country. Learn about the wooden boxes placed in or near Cleveland
Metroparks ponds and wetlands.

Frogs and Fungus: Has the Global Amphibian Crisis Reached
A pathogenic fungus is causing widespread amphibian mortality
in various parts of the world. A preliminary survey of this region
indicates local amphibians may not be affected dramatically, yet.
But, will the frogs and salamanders of Cleveland Metroparks be
affected by the fungus causing global declines of amphibians?
