Cleveland Metroparks invites everyone to CanalWayCenter in Ohio
& Erie Canal Reservation in CuyahogaHeights for
"Exploration Station...Along the Canal," a series of
drop-in events for families, individuals and groups to learn and
experience skills, stories and science of today and long
The free "Exploration Stations" take place Saturdays,
once a month, June through October as follows:
Saturday, June 12 � 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Fishing on the Canal
Join a naturalist along the canal for some informative fishing.
Casting lessons will be available for anyone who wants to try it
without a hook. Bring own equipment, or call and make a reservation
if a fishing pole is needed. A valid fishing license is required
for ages 16 and older.
Saturday, July 10 � 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Blacksmithing and Tinsmithing
Come observe a blacksmith form and fashion some metal goods,
and try out tinsmithing with a take-home craft.
Saturday, August 7 � 8 - 10 p.m.
Wonders of the Cosmos Above the CanalWay
Join teacher/astronomer Len Muni as he shares fascinating facts
and stories, and points out wonders in the cosmos while gazing up
from the Hidden Valley. Bring binoculars.
Saturday, September 4 � 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Woodcarving Under the Cottonwoods
Great Lakes woodcarvers will be demonstrating their craft along
the canal under the cottonwood trees near the towpath. Come see the
fine workmanship and get tips on how to get started.
Saturday, October 2 � 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Voyageur Encampment Along the Canal Corridor
Cleveland Metroparks French Canadian Voyageurs will take a day
of rest from paddling, and will camp out along the canal. They
don't need to be on the water to tell their stories, sing songs and
play games. Come down and try some voyageur food and dance to the
CanalWayCenter is located on Whittlesey Way, off the East 49th
Street entrance of Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation, between Grant
Avenue and Canal Road in CuyahogaHeights.
