KALL440-331-5768 Cleveland Metroparks Rangers are partnering with AAA East Centralon a summer bike helmet awareness campaign. The Helmet Smart campaign rewards children who wear their helmetswhile bike riding in the Park District with a safety"citation." The citation packet includes a Parent-Child contract andinformation on safety helmet sizing and uses. A coupon forzoo admission is included, as well as a drawing for a bike giveawayfrom AAA. Rangers will issue the citations to children riding their bike andwearing their helmet in any of the Park District's reservations.The campaign runs through August 14. The campaign also encourages parents to take an active role intheir children's safety by always encouraging them to wear bikehelmets when riding, and to wear helmets themselves, too. Gregory M. Loftus, ranger chief, explains, "ClevelandMetroparks Rangers welcome this opportunity to educate and informyouth and parents about good bike riding habits. When helmets areworn by a cyclist it has shown to reduce the risk of a life-longbrain or head injury by 85%."
