It's amazing how tens-of-thousands grains of sand can be sculpted
into incredible master pieces.
Come see a sand sculptor creation at Cleveland Metroparks free
"Summer Beach Party" event on Saturday, August 7 from 5
to 11 p.m. at Huntington Beach in Huntington Reservation in Bay
Village.
Nine-time World Champion Carl Jara will arrive in the morning to
begin 'playing in the sand' to carve, sculpt and make another sand
sculptor masterpiece.
Carl Jara: is a local prodigy and has been featured twice on
The Travel Channel. Jara has won just about every honor there
is to win as a master sand sculptor. He is the only sculptor
ever to have won more than one Sculptors Choice Award at the World
Championships. Jara has competed in eleven countries, more
than two dozen states and continues to make a living "playing
in the sand." In addition to sand sculpting, Jara works
for the Cleveland Museum of Natural History as the Exhibits
Artisan/Technician.
Just as Jara is completing his sand sculptor, the "Summer
Beach Party" officially kicks off. Beach-goers can enjoy
activities from 5 to 8 p.m. by trying their own hand at building
sand castles, a fishing demonstration area with Cleveland
Metroparks staff, and kayak demonstration area with 41 North
Coastal Kayak Adventures. Plus, enjoy live animals from Lake
ErieNature & ScienceCenter, a dive team exhibit with Cleveland
Metroparks Rangers, Island Jeff's Steel Drum Show, and
more!
To continue the fun, beach-goers can also enjoy beach games and
activities from 5 to 8 p.m. including: a UFO sighting scavenger
hunt, shake-n-bake contest, flying saucer water balloon toss,
Reese's Pieces relay race, hula hoop contest, beach blanket bingo,
limbo, "Ranger" says, cornhole, beach volleyball, and
more.
Day-of registration is required to participate in all games, and
space is limited. Prizes will be awarded.
And, as the sun sets across the night skies, warm up at the
campfire and enjoy the ever-entertaining Musical Mark at
8 p.m.
Then, be sure to bring beach blankets and beach chairs for the 8:45
p.m. movie on the beach - "E.T." (the 1982 movie
classic).
Huntington Beach is located off Lake Road in Huntington
Reservation, between Crocker-Bassett and Columbia roads in Bay
Village - north of the I-90/Columbia Road
exit.
