    It's Not Too Late to Brush Up on Golf Skills with Cleveland Metroparks "Academy of Golf" 2010

    So, did you want to get into golf this season, but didn't know how
    to play the game? Or have the clubs not made their way out of the
    closet yet this year? Well, just because summer is halfway through
    doesn't mean you can't play! Cleveland Metroparks "Academy of
    Golf" has PGA-certified instructors who can help golfers of
    any skill level learn the game or get better at playing.

     

    The following classes are just some of the offerings provided by
    the "Academy of Golf" in 2010:

     

    Beginners - An Introduction to Golf

    This hands-on, four- and six-week series covers the basics of
    the full swing, chipping and putting. Basic golf terms, rules and
    etiquette are reviewed. Loaner equipment is available. All
    participants completing the course are provided a pass to a
    Cleveland Metroparks Par 3 course. A limit of 7 adult participants
    per class accepted. The sessions range from $100 (4 weeks) to $150
    (6 weeks). Session dates, times and locations are as follows:

    � Thursdays, August 5 through 26 - 6 - 7:30 p.m. at Washington
    (216-641-1864) - 4 weeks

    � Saturdays, August 7 through 28 - 6 - 7:30 p.m. at Washington
    (216-641-1864) - 4 weeks

    � Mondays, August 23 through Sept. 20 - 6:30 - 8 p.m. at Washington
    (216-641-1864) - 4 weeks

     

    The Golf Swing - The Fundamentals

    This hands-on clinic covers aspects of a solid, fundamental
    golf swing, including grip, set-up and swing. The class provides
    general, fundamental and basic instruction useful for adult players
    of every skill level, gender and age. A limit of 7 participants
    accepted per session. The 1 1/2-hour class costs $30. Session
    dates, times and locations are as follows:

    � Thursday, August 19 - 6 - 7:30 p.m. at Shawnee Hills

    � Tuesday, Sept. 7 - 6 - 7:30 p.m. at Shawnee Hills
    (440-232-7184)

     

    The Short Game - Putting and Chipping

    This session reviews basics of successful "around the
    green shots." The class will provide general, fundamental
    instruction that is useful for players of every skill level, gender
    and age. A limit of 7 adult participants accepted per session. The
    1 1/2-hour class costs $30. Session dates, times and locations are
    as follows:

    � Thursday, August 5 - 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Shawnee Hills

    Novice Golf Learn 'n' League

    This six-week adult program combines instruction and practice
    (about an hour) followed by playing 9 holes (usually) in a
    supervised league setting. Each week a different part of the game
    will be featured. Program is meant for newer players, but not raw
    beginners. Fee includes green fees and hand carts. Session date,
    time and location are as follows: 

    � Wednesdays, August 25 through Sept. 29 - 9:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at
    Washington (216-641-1864) - 6 weeks
