Are you a history buff or just curious about the past? Then, join
Cleveland Metroparks and travel back in time to learn some of the
exciting history in and around the Park District.
Take part in the following free, history-related programs offered
this August:
Hidden Story Hike
Tuesday, August 3 � 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Egbert Picnic Area � Bedford Reservation
The 4-mile hike heads down into the gorge to uncover some of
the history that lies within Bedford Reservation. Egbert Picnic
Area is located off Gorge Parkway in Bedford Reservation, off

Naturalist Amanda Ellisworth helps visitor discover some of the
unique history of the area on a hike along the Iron Springs Loop
Trail. GarfieldParkNatureCenter is located off Mill Creek Lane, off
the Broadway Avenue entrance of Garfield Park Reservation in

Bike Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation

Reservation
Cleveland Metroparks staff members Doug Kusak and Jill Hauger lead
a 12-mile history/nature adventure on bicycle through Ohio &
Erie Canal Reservation's all purpose trail. The terrain is paved
and the program is at an easy to moderate pace. Helmets are
required. Registration, beginning August 2, is required. Rockside
Road parking lot is located near the intersection of Rockside and
Canal roads in Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation in Independence.

Family Friday Night: Squire's Castle

Families are invited to discover one of Cleveland Metroparks
most famous landmarks: Squire's Castle! Learn who Feargus B. Squire
was, his connection to John D. Rockefeller, and the story behind
the gatekeeper's lodge that still stands. Squire's Castle is
located off Chagrin River Road in North Chagrin Reservation, south
of Chardon Road/Route 6 in Willoughby Hills. For more

School of the Wilds: Devonian Fossil Fishes

Devonian fossils. Naturalist Dave Dvorak and Geologist Paul Hilston
will talk about what life was like 360 million years ago in the
warm shallow sea. Afterwards, take a look at shale through a fossil
