"E.T. phone home" - a classic line, from a classic
movie. Come enjoy the 1982 classic movie "E.T." on
the beach at Cleveland Metroparks free "Summer Beach
Party" event on Saturday, August 7 from 5 to 11 p.m. at
Huntington Beach in Huntington Reservation in Bay Village.
Visitors can enjoy activities from 5 to 8 p.m., including: a sand
castle building area, a fishing demonstration area with Cleveland
Metroparks staff, kayak demonstration area with 41� North Coastal
Kayak Adventures, live animals from Lake Erie Nature & Science
Center, a dive team exhibit with Cleveland Metroparks Rangers,
Island Jeff's Steel Drum Show, and more!
Kids can enjoy participating in beach games from 5 to 8 p.m.,
including:
*UFO Sighting Scavenger Hunt - Participants will be given a list
of items to find along the beach.
*Reese's Pieces Relay Race - Relay teams have to complete in a
few activities, to win the Reese's Pieces.
*Hula Hoop Contest - Who has the endurance to keep hula hooping
into first place?
*Shake-N-Bake Contest - Contestants get wet in the water and then
cover themselves in the sand.
*Limbo - How low can you go....while keeping your balance?
Beach Blanket Bingo - A classic game of bingo featuring beach
names.
*"Ranger" Says - A good listening game; the person who
listens to all the "Ranger's" commands will win.
*Flying Saucer Water Balloon Toss - Last team to not break their
balloon is the winner.
*Cornhole - A Cleveland Area favorite!
*Volleyball - Grab six friends and enter a team in the beach
volleyball tournament.
Day-of registration is required to participate in all games, and
space is limited. Prizes will be awarded.
The Lake Erie Monsters hockey team will offer face and hair
painting, and plink-o and cornhole games, along with their mascot,
Sully, hanging out, too.
And, before the featured movie, warm up at the campfire and enjoy
the sounds of Musical Mark at 8 p.m.
Plus, witness nine-time World Champion Carl Jara as he 'plays in
the sand' to design a special sand sculpture for this year's
"Summer Beach Party."
Carl Jara: a local prodigy who has been featured twice on The
Travel Channel. Jara has won nearly every honor there is to
win as a master sand sculptor. He is the only sculptor ever
to have won more than one Sculptors Choice Award at the World
Championships. Jara has competed in eleven countries, more
than two dozen states and continues to make a living "playing
in the sand." In addition to sand sculpting, Jara works
for the Cleveland Museum of Natural History as the Exhibits
Artisan/Technician.
Then, at 9 p.m., find a good spot on the beach to place the beach
blankets and beach chairs for the 1982 classic movie
"E.T."
