Beginning January 1, 2011, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will be smoke free. The new policy will ensure a healthier environment for Zoo guests, particularly children.
The smoking ban reflects a trend toward non-smoking zoos across the country. More than one-third of zoos accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums are smoke free. Additionally, the Zoo's most recent visitor surveys indicate that the majority of Zoo guests would prefer a smoke free Zoo. Currently, the Zoo maintains designated smoking areas.
"There will be an adjustment period," said Zoo Director Steve Taylor. "Bottom-line – it's a sound decision made for the safety of our animals and the comfort of our guests."
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Regular discounted winter admission through March 31, 2011 is $7 per person, $5 for kids ages 2-11 and free for Zoo members and children younger than 2. Parking is free. Located at 3900 Wildlife Way, the Zoo is easily accessible from Interstates 71, 77, 90 and 480.
