PROJECT UPDATES
You are invited to join a Community Meeting Tuesday, March 23 at 6:30 PM to learn about plans to improve bike and pedestrian access to Rocky River Reservation in the vicinity of Old Lorain Road. Cleveland Metroparks, West Park Kamm's Neighborhood Development, and Ward 17 Councilperson Charles Slife are working together to better connect the neighborhood to the assets of the park. ABOUT THE PROJECT
Cleveland Metroparks is working to provide multi-use trail connections between parks and communities served by the Park District. The Cleveland Metroparks, the City of Cleveland, Ward 17 Councilperson Charles Slife, and the West Park Kamm’s Neighborhood Development (WPKND) are working together to improve off-road connections to Rocky River Reservation from the east side of the river. Representatives of Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital have also voiced support for a proposed trail connection.
Access between the neighborhood and Rocky River Reservation for walkers, runners, bicyclists, individuals with mobility challenges, and families with strollers has long been a challenge due to the steep slopes and narrow pavement of Old Lorain Road. A feasibility study funded by the City of Cleveland and conducted in partnership with WPKND and Cleveland Metroparks is exploring options for a trail connection. The partners are seeking community input on the draft trail connection in several ways, including the comment form on this website and an upcoming online meeting.
The proposed connector trail to Rocky River Reservation will traverse the area’s steep topography to create a new park connection for the 1,400 residents living within a half mile of the park. In the valley, the link will connect to the existing Emerald Necklace trail. This off-road trail stretches 33 miles through Cleveland Metroparks from Detroit Avenue in Lakewood to the Towpath Trail in Cuyahoga Valley National Park and connects to multiple communities and trails along the way.
