Water bills soar in the summer while irrigating gardens and lawns.

Learn how to collect rainwater by installing a rain barrel in your home landscape at two special "Rain Barrel Workshops" on Wednesday, June 23 at Morgan's Hollow Picnic Area in Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation or on Wednesday, June 30 at Look About Lodge in South Chagrin Reservation. Both adult-only workshops take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Each workshop participant has the opportunity to construct and take home a rain barrel, and learn other ways to reduce storm water runoff.

The Environmental Protection Agency describes rain barrels as systems that collect and store water from roofs that would otherwise be lost to runoff and diverted to storm drains and steams. Rain barrels save homeowners water during peak summer months. And not only do they save money, but they help to protect the environment, too.

Registration and $60 fee, by June 17, are required for the workshop at Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation. Space is limited. For more information and to register, call 216-206-1000.

Morgan's Hollow Picnic Area is located off Whittlesey Way in Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation, off E. 49th Street in CuyahogaHeights.

Registration and $60 fee, by June 23, are required for the workshop at South Chagrin Reservation. Space is limited. For more information and to register, call 440-247-7075.

Look About Lodge is located at 37374 Miles Road in South Chagrin Reservation, between SOM Center Road/Route 91 and Chagrin River Road in Bentleyville.

The fee includes a barrel, downspout diverter and all materials. Space is limited.

Rocky RiverNatureCenter is located at 24000 Valley Parkway in Rocky River Reservation, north of Cedar Point Road in North Olmsted.

For more information and to register, call 440-734-6660.
